Hello and welcome to the Natural Remedy MD blog! With so much to learn about medical marijuana, it can be overwhelming to know where to look for reliable information and a reliable medical marijuana doctor. My goal with this blog is to provide an introduction to medical marijuana along with reliable information for those who may be new, or sometimes not so new, to medical marijuana. My goal is to provide you with information and resources to help educate you about medical marijuana, as well as discuss what medical marijuana is and how medical marijuana might be able to help you or your loved ones with a variety of different symptoms.
Let’s start with some terminology. Marijuana, as cannabis is commonly known, refers to plants in the cannabis family. Because most people know this medication as “medical marijuana”, this is the term I will often use in the blog. When we see patients, we address the medication as cannabis, which is how it is known in medical terminology. There are multiple types of cannabis plants with different characteristics and genetic make-up, which is what determines what physical and mental effects different plants will have. Different types of cannabis are called chemovars (short for chemical varieties). In marijuana dispensaries, people will often refer to chemovars as “strains”.
CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are most widely known of the active plant components of marijuana. Project CBD <a hef” https://www.projectcbd.org/”> offers a good description of some of the differences in CBD and THC. In addition to CBD and THC, there are hundreds of different active components in marijuana that activate the Endocannabinoid System in the human body. The endocannabinoid system has many different roles in the human body, which explains why medical marijuana can help people with so many different conditions. The most common conditions our cannabis doctors see patients for are pain, PTSD, neuropathy, migraines, cancer, and relief of symptoms associated with end of life like loss of appetite and insomnia.
Finding the right kind of medical marijuana is a unique experience for every patient. It often takes a few tries and keeping track of what effects you experience. Helping patients make this process the best experience possible is our goal at Natural Remedy MD. We have trained specialists in cannabis medicine who have dedicated themselves to be experts in medical marijuana therapy and education.
Our mission is to Educate, Evaluate, and Empower our patients on a path to better health, whether that is through cannabis therapy or other means of treatment. Many doctors practicing today do not have much knowledge about marijuana, especially medical marijuana, because it hasn’t been an option for therapy in the United States until recently. There is limited or no education about cannabis in most medical schools. This is changing, and we believe for the benefit of many patients. Marijuana has been used as a medication safely and effectively for thousands of years, and we hope to be a part a revolution which sees the current stigma of marijuana vanish and introduces medical marijuana as a positive option to improve the lives of our patients.
Our experience in family medicine, emergency medicine, public health, addiction medicine, and health education has given us perspectives on the current health system and has given us knowledge and understanding of how cannabis is a positive alternative for many patients. I hope to share this knowledge with you as the blog evolves.
Thank you for reading. Go forth and have your best day.
